Author’s note: The following is an excerpt from Waterfalls, an autobiographical project I wrote in 2023. It is really never my intention to publish such an intensely personal account, but there are passages that are generic enough, filled with various impressions, that as far as I’m concerned are entertaining musings without delving into too many relationships and conflicts. The Heart of Texas chapter is one such accounting. With the exception of myself, the following has been altered from the original to remove specific names of individuals to protect their identities. The rest appears unaltered from the original – unpublished – manuscript. My original purpose was to keep an account of events for future years when the mind weakens, and the images of the past become cloudy or obscured entirely with age.
