The Remaining Eight Weeks

It is a crisp November day – the stereotypical autumn day you imagine when you think about November while engulfed in the throws of a scorching July day. The grass, still grasping at its green hue for as long as it can before the harsh winter, is littered with golden leaves. It’s been a busy few weeks [domestically], and I’m hoping that now there’s a break in the calendar where I can get back to somewhat of a routine. Which also means, regrettably, that I need to add the leaf collection to my Task List. At least the weather will be conducive for it.

I try not to bore everyone with too many domestic affairs – after all everyone has their own. However, it seems collectively we’ve all been running a gauntlet in one form or another over the last several weeks. Do you agree? The cliche is to think back to simpler times, but generally speaking I think that is an illusion. There really never are simpler times, just different shades of the base color. When you’re younger the stress is fraught with items that adult you laughs off later in life as frivolous, but they were stressful to younger you at that time. That’s just the nature of life. Wondering if you’re going to get what you really want for Christmas was replaced with the annoyance of a mortgage payment. The stress level is the same even when it’s quite not.

I don’t retreat that way, however, as I find it’s best to plan forward. Hence my desire to get back into some semblance of a routine. Which is ideal given to which the speed that the holiday season is approaching. If we’re coming up on the time of year where we should be thankful, and enjoy the company of our friends and family, it is important to have the calendar clear of unique potholes to the best of our ability. We can never truly be rid of them all, but the frustration enters when they start colliding together too close on the calendar – where I have, personally, found myself recently. There’s pros and cons to that. The pro is, of course, being able to get them all lined up together and out of the way for clear sailing beyond. The con is obvious – the bunching of everything together. Well, at least a deep breath can be taken after. Right now there are eight weeks remaining to 2023.As we approach the end of the year I want to extend a wish to everyone for a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season.
