What Else Can Be Said?

I haven’t written in a while. There are no excuses for it, but simply the practical statement is that I haven’t had much to say. Since my last post Ralph Krueger was fired by the Sabres. They have marginally improved their effort — so there’s that — but they remain a floundering team at best. They couldn’t excise a first round pick for Taylor Hall at the trade deadline. A player that was being marketed as an impact player when he arrived in Buffalo. Then yesterday Elliotte Friedman on NHL Network made the comment regarding why Hall went to Boston rather than Vegas was simply because the Bruins were the first choice. They were always the first choice. They were the first choice last summer. Buffalo, for all their pontificating otherwise, was a reluctant second choice. At least that’s the way I interpreted that statement. Hall’s eye had always been trained on the Bruins. So be it. The last thing any team needs is someone that doesn’t want to be on that roster. Best he be moved. As far as I’m concerned he was another example of the problem with the Sabres; not a solution to.

Again, I haven’t written because there hasn’t been much to write. The Sabres are what they are, and given their organizational structure I still don’t see anything changing anytime soon. By my estimation they still do not have a general manager, nor a coach. I have nothing against Kevyn Adams, but he is another inexperienced first time general manager. That is not what they need right now — which might be evident by not obtaining a first round pick for Hall. I’ve never been a professional sports general manager either, but I know what I don’t know. I acknowledge my inefficiency of being battle tested. So true it is with Adams. Searching for an assistant GM, searching for a coach — all being conducted by someone who is 10+ months into their job as well inside an organization that is struggling to change its culture. It’s difficult not to think that this won’t end well. Again, there’s nothing additional to add that I haven’t before.
